CEO and Co-Founder, QMS2GO. IRCA Certified Lead Auditor, ISO 9001 · Six Sigma Black Belt · former American Petroleum Institute (API) lead auditor · MS Engineering and Technology Management · Executive MBA
Onega Ulanova is the CEO and co-founder of QMS2GO. She has spent two decades implementing quality management systems and auditing manufacturers, first as a quality engineer and then as an American Petroleum Institute auditor at companies including Schlumberger, Weatherford, GE Oil & Gas and NOV. She writes about ISO 9001 and API Spec Q1 from the auditor's side of the table: what a registrar actually asks to see, in what order, and what counts as objective evidence.
Onega Ulanova is a quality management systems strategist with two decades of experience implementing standards, auditing manufacturers and guiding organizations through certification. She is the CEO and co-founder of QMS2GO, the audit-ready quality management system for ISO 9001:2015 manufacturers. Her work is grounded in a specific question: not only how to implement a standard, but why the requirement exists in the first place.
That foundation is academic as well as practical. Onega holds a Bachelor of Science in Standardization, Metrology and Certification, where she studied how standards and specifications are developed, the discipline of metrology, and the role certification plays in trade and supply chains. She applied it early, building quality management systems at a software company and at a silica processing plant before immigrating to the United States. She then earned a Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management from Louisiana Tech University, concentrating on industrial engineering and operations management, which gave her the analytical grounding to turn QMS theory into measurable business results.
Her career has since spanned several continents and industries. She joined Valveworks USA, one of the largest privately held companies in her region, as a QMS consultant and quality engineer, where she and her team redefined what a quality management system meant for the business and opened the way for its next phase of growth. That work led the American Petroleum Institute to recruit her as an auditor. She trained across more than 20 API specifications and product categories and conducted quality management system audits for energy and manufacturing companies including Schlumberger, Weatherford, GE Oil & Gas Drilling and Production, and NOV, along with dozens of Gulf Coast fabricators, machine shops and drilling equipment manufacturers. She also led audits internationally, in Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, and developed the quality management system for Master Flow in Houston, an implementation that became a model for the wider organization.
The World Bank later engaged her to build a full quality management system for Topan, a state-critical facility in Kazakhstan employing more than 200 people. Under her direction the facility achieved API Q1 certification, a notable milestone for the region.
Running her own company shifted her perspective again. Managing growth, cash and delivery pressure firsthand showed her how directly operational discipline drives profitability and scalability, and she added an Executive MBA to sharpen the business side of that view. The idea for QMS2GO came out of routine API audits at friends' shops, where she kept finding the same pattern: systems that had been certified were quietly sliding backwards rather than improving. That observation became a conversation with her business partner, and then a product. QMS2GO is an AI-native, cloud-based platform built to make ISO 9001 compliance intuitive and attainable for small manufacturers competing for government and defense contracts.
Onega co-founded QMS2GO in 2024 and leads product direction, customer implementation and the certification-readiness methodology behind the platform's 120-day audit path. The workflows, records and evidence trails in the platform follow how audits are actually run, meaning what a registrar or customer auditor asks to see, in what order, and what counts as objective evidence. She writes about clause-by-clause implementation, management review, internal audit programs, supplier approval and flow-down, corrective action, and the operating habits that separate a certified company from a genuinely capable one. She is based at the QMS2GO headquarters in Ruston, Louisiana, and works with manufacturers, distributors and quality consultants across the United States.
