Why a manufacturing-specific QMS matters
Most generic quality tools were built for regulated services or IT — not for the shop floor. A real QMS software for manufacturing has to move at the pace of production: receiving inspections have to raise nonconformances in real time, work orders have to enforce routing steps, and calibration has to flag equipment that is out of tolerance along with the inspections it accepted. If your system can't do that, the paperwork always drifts out of sync with what actually happened.

Equipment and calibration — intervals, certificates, out-of-tolerance workflows.
Supplier quality — approved supplier list with revision history, scorecards, SCAR responses.
Internal audits — program planning, checklists, findings that convert to CAPA.
Training and competence — role-based requirements and evidence of effectiveness.
Risk, objectives, and management review — the clause 6 and clause 9 loop, fed by real data.
Twelve questions to ask on the demo
Show me a shipped job traced backward to the drawing revision, material cert, inspection, and CAPA.
What lives outside this system, and who keeps those two records in sync?
What date will we be live on, and what has to be true for that date to hold?
Can an operator do this on a tablet at the machine? Show me.
How does our existing document numbering survive migration?
What happens to our Excel logs and SharePoint folders — imported, or retyped?
How does it connect to our accounting system or ERP?
When a gauge fails calibration, what does the system do about the parts it accepted?
Can I produce the clause-by-clause evidence packet for an auditor without exporting a folder of PDFs?
How do customer flow-down requirements get captured per contract and per part?
What does the total cost look like at our user count in year two, including support?
Which customers your size will take my call as a reference?
Traps to avoid
Buying document control and calling it a QMS. If work orders, receiving, and calibration live elsewhere, traceability lives nowhere.
Duplicate data entry. It is the single most reliable predictor of an abandoned QMS.
Phase plans instead of dates. Implementations measured in quarters usually stall before the audit.
Validation you don't need. Paying for a validated life-sciences eQMS to satisfy ISO 9001 or API Q1 is expensive over-buying.
Features nobody on the floor will use. Data that arrives late arrives wrong.
