ISO 9001 Contract Review in 2026: What to Check Before You Say Yes

ISO 9001 contract review means checking a purchase order's requirements before you commit to supply (clause 8.2.3). Here are the five checks to run before you say yes, how the spec flows down to your plater (8.4.3), and what ISO 9001:2026 sharpened in clause 8.2. What you'll learn - Check 1: what the customer requires: drawing revision, specs, quantity, delivery and anything after delivery (8.2.3.1 a) - Check 2: what the intended use requires, even if nobody wrote it down, when you know it (8.2.3.1 b) - Check 3: what your own shop requires to fulfill the order (8.2.3.1 c) - Check 4: applicable laws and regulations (8.2.3.1 d) - Check 5: any differences between the quote and the order, resolved before you accept (8.2.3.1 e) - Then keep evidence of the review and any new or changed requirements (8.2.3.2) - When there's no written PO, confirm the customer's requirements before you accept - If an outside plater does the finish, the spec has to reach them on your PO or a referenced drawing or controlled spec (8.4.3) - ISO 9001:2026: when requirements change, update the relevant documents and tell everyone affected, including outside suppliers when applicable (8.2.4). Contingency actions aren't new, but 2026 makes telling customers about them more explicit, when relevant, including for disruptions (8.2.1) At QMS2GO, Onega has audited over 200 companies, from mom-and-pop shops to Fortune 500s including Schlumberger, NOV and GE, to ISO 9001 and API Q1. With QMS2GO, RP2020, a startup manufacturer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went from no QMS to an ISO 9001 certificate in three weeks. Why this matters for your ISO 9001 QMS

Certification and surveillance audits sample records, not intentions. This video is most useful when you map what it describes onto the documented information you already produce — procedures, approvals, corrective actions, calibration and training records — and close whichever of those is thin before the next audit cycle.

How to use this video

Most quality teams get the most value by treating each video as a working session rather than passive background. Note the ISO 9001 clauses referenced, compare what is described against how your own organization currently handles that requirement, and write down the gap. Where the gap is a missing record, a missing owner, or a process that lives only in someone's head, that is exactly what a certification or surveillance auditor will find first. Share the video with process owners and supervisors so quality ownership is not concentrated in one person.

Who this is for

Quality managers building or inheriting an ISO 9001 quality management system, internal auditors preparing an audit program to ISO 19011, consultants supporting multiple client sites, production and operations leaders who own corrective actions, and executives who need a plain-language view of how quality performance connects to on-time delivery, scrap, rework, and customer complaints. No prior auditor training is assumed, and every video in the hub is free to view without signup or a credit card.
